Writing shared project proposals across (scientific) cultures can often be quite a challenge. Ownership is crucial to the success of such enterprise. Hurdles are not only the difficulty of communication but also the shared understanding of the demands of the funding agency. In this case, the call for VLIR-UOS proposals early in 2018 was used to experiment in the process of project writing. Using XREI travel grants, a team of UCLL researchers did travel to the University of Rwanda where they joined a local group of peers. Under the guidance of a project consultant, the teams jointly schooled themselves in project writing and came up with a significant number of well-crafter project proposals. Two of the 4 Project proposals were approved. A very nice result!
